So what?
After analyzing numerous American works and other pieces of American media, an important lesson is to be learned. The American Experience is attained by taking on the open road, rejecting society and possessing a spirit of rebellion, and experiencing the tragic pursuit as well as recognizing the American Dream ceases to exist. All of these elements bring upon conflicts of the heart as explained earlier, but only after fighting these conflicts can one really have lived through the American Experience. From this journey, we can learn a few things.
First of all, from exploring the concept of taking on the road one can discover that the American Experience is about the individual. You can choose your own path. You choose where you want to go and what you get out of it. You can find yourself on the road. The American Experience is about what you take out of it. You only gain what you choose to and you can gain more by traveling to gain more experience and knowledge of figurative America. As an American, you have the choice to choose your path in life and what you get out of it.
By analyzing the American rebel, non-comformists of America, one can learn a thing or two about peer pressure and society. Peer pressure only exists if you let it. Peer pressure only affects an individual if they let it. If one does not acknowledge peer pressure, it can knothole any control over you. The same goes for society. Society will try to draw you in and make you just like everyone else, but you have a choice. You don't have to fall to these pressure. You define yourself and choose between an authentic or phony life. The true American is the one who fights these pressures.
The last element of the American Experience has taught us how to restore the American Dream and that starts with the individual. Everyone must give an effort to better the American Dream for everyone else. People must accept different and embrace it. The tragic pursuit has sent many down a path with no light at the end of the tunnel and we have the power to fix that path. The individual must give a little in order to gain some for everyone.
The American Experience is dependent on the individual. Everyone can create their own story and their own identity. America may no longer be the "land of opportunity", but we can fix that. If we can all overcome society, we can embrace different and restore the American Dream, improving the American Experience for all.
